:)

Had a good day yesterday - went to the meeting at Southport and then went round to visit my grandad who is just out of hospital for his hip replacement.

Got home and went to work, I closed, so I was home about 2:15 which wasnt bad considering how yuck the floor was! Also my manager wants to train me to be a shift-runner, so I was learning about that too, however Sunday night's paperwork is different to the rest of the week.

She wants me to do Wednesday and Thursday nights in future as a shift - runner once I am trained: training begins this week! I have to learn how to manage the teenagers - which apparently is harder than it looks and how to resolve customer complaints etc.

I was told in no uncertain terms that when I come to work on Wednesday I would be in trouble if I go out on the road as a driver when I am supposed to be learning how to run a shift! We'll see how that goes - if it's busy obviously I'll have to take the risk! So basically it's a promotion - fast tracked because they need someone who a) actually turns up to work & b) will be able to handle the responsibility of the job. I'm not too sure about the second one! I asked my manager if she wanted to train someone cheaper (read: under 18) as there are a few good teenage shift-runners at our store, but often they can't work closes because they have to go to school the next day. She likened managing the store to having a toddler - she says it needs constant supervision and attention! Anyway with any luck that means a pay rise for me sometime in the not-too-distant future - yay because I get a pay rise just as a delivery driver once I am there 13 weeks - which I am about 2/3 of the way through :) Justy is doing well at Domino's too - he worked his first close on Friday night and the opened on Saturday...poor thing!

Playing

Justy & Jazmin spent a lot of time playing in the pool and on the swing.

This is at the Mercure hotel where we went a couple of nights for dinner

Ice cream

The ice-cream in Fiji is mostly imported.

This was on out first night in Fiji.

I thought this was interesting - served in a pineapple! I didn't end up eating muh of it though - it was creamy chicken and it was too rich for me. Most places in Fiji use UHT milk (I don't even know if they have fresh) so it makes things taste different. Also it makes the cappucino taste gross, even in a 5-star hotel in Suva!

This was on our cruise around the Fijian Islands. The quality of the video doesn't do it justice.

BULA from Fiji

We're loving it here - after we got used to the heat!

The first day we got in and didn't do all that much. Walked down to the shops - which are a LOT different to Aussie-style shops.

The second day (October 11) was our wedding anniversary.
In the morning we went into Nadi - the people are friendly, and some know just what to say to get you to part with your $$. Lesson learned early on in the trip which has saved us a lot later on. "No thanks" is a very useful phase here!

We took a sunset cruise from Port Denaru around some of the islands, which was absolutley breathtaking. The steak was good too! Most of the food here is imported from New Zealand, and no cases of "traveller's tummy" to report (so far!).

On the third day we got a taxi up to Lautoka. I bought a couple of tops. It was quite crowded and we didn't really feel at ease there.

Yesterday we had a 3 site tour - Vuda Lookout (which is on private property), The first village on the Island of Viti Levu....more on that later - for now I can't remember how to spell it! Then we went to the Garden of the Sleeping Giant, which is a lush tropical garden, set up by TVs Perry Mason.

More later - internet time has run out!

Bula!

1am

It's 1am and I am home from work - awesome! Closed again tonight and were pretty busy but the deliveries stopped aboout 10pm which was great because it meant that I got a head start on the cleaning. I seem to have developed a chronic pain in my right heel and I think that it is from where I naturally put it when I am driving, because the other foot is fine and it hurts like heck when I am driving. Hopefully a week off will help! No work now till after Fiji! Despite the work to the early hours of the morning and the sore foot, the job is ok and I really like having a job again even if I don't especially like the work. Also my puppy really likes pizza...sometimes I bring pizzas home that people havent picked up - they are a bit too yuck for us to eat but he scoffs them.

What a Night!

I have discovered that my Fuel guage is stuffed and that the warning light comes on when there is about half a K left in the tank. I ran out of petrol last night on a back road in Buccan. Buccan is semi-rural and is the furthest part of my delivery area. There is very poor mobile reception, so I got Justy to call the RACQ for me. I had left my wallet at home so I was on my way to get that. It is creepy out at Buccan at night because there are no street lights. After we got that all sorted out the rest of the shift was ok. Got home around midnight so that wasn't so bad.

"It's 3am and I must be alone now" - Matchbox 20

But no - I was NOT alone at 3am...I was still at work. Got home around half past. Quite tired today!

Justy's mum and dad have been and gone, we've organised a petsitter for Brandy & Odie for when we are in Fiji and Justin's new job is going well.

I worked close last night but am only on till 10:30 tonight. Working close Saturday, Sunday and Monday though. Justin is starting at Domino's on Saturday too.

The Write Way

I had scolded my 3-year-old for drawing on herself with a pen. The next day we were in line at McDonald's when she noticed a man with tattoos all over his arms. She watched him closely for several minutes and then shouted, "Mommy, he wrote all over himself. Is he in trouble?" Thankfully, the nice man had a hearty laugh. Amy Fields Parker City, Indiana
